JAPAN EARTHQUAKE APPEAL
PROFOH Headquarters, Washington DC, PROFOH headquarters in Washington DC sent their condolences to the people of South Japan, as a powerful magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck Kumamoto Prefecture on island of Kyushu on July 28, 2026, at 4:27 p.m. local time, following the initial tremor, authorities issued evacuation warnings for approximately 300,000 residents across Kyushu. Emergency search-and-rescue teams remain actively deployed on the ground to clear debris, restore heavily buckled roadways, and assist displaced populations amid a continuous sequence of aftershocks. The sights and sounds of this disaster is of great concern to the Board, Management and Members of our organization.
Our deep connection with the people of Japan spans over two decades. Approximately 26 years ago, through the generous support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japanese Government, PROFOH received funding to construct safe, portable drinking water facilities for the Atan Winsola Community in Oyo State, Nigeria. That monumental effort brought health, life, and hope to thousands. Today, in the spirit of reciprocal compassion, we stand ready to support Japan in their moment of catastrophe.
Compassion is reciprocal, we sincerely urged all our members, partner organisations to donate generously to the following organizations on the ground in Southern Japan.
- Japan Red Cross Society (JRCS)
- AAR Japan (Association for Aid & Relief)
- Peace Boat Disaster Relief (PBV)
- Japan Platform (JPF)
